ouch.... [28 Oct 2008|03:14pm]
Cross and Triangle spread is a powerful means of understanding complex situations, developed by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. This spread is rich in occult and mystical symbolism, and one of our favorites here at Facade. The Benedetti Tarot is a highly stylized deck painted on gold leaf. 7 years in the making, the images were inspired by the Visconti Tarot, the earliest Tarot deck still in existence. The Benedetti Tarot is the favorite deck of those who seek simplicity and elegance in their lives.
The first card, the significator, is placed in the center of the cross. This card represents the prime energy manifest in your life. Knight of Cups, when reversed: The dark essence of water behaving as fire, such as a flash flood: Deceptive charm in the service of intense insecurity and rapidly shifting moods. Selfishness, indolence, and a complete lack of maturity. Misguided idealism divorced from practicality. Destructive romantic passions and infidelity.
The second card, placed above the significator, represents Air. It describes your spirit, process of thought, and the influence of reason. Five of Wands (Strife), when reversed: Pointless struggles motivated by the vain pursuit of recognition, financial reward, or base desires. Disunity, chaos, and petty quarreling at a time of crisis. A stressful situation that brings out the worst in the participants.
The third card, placed to the right of the significator, represents Fire. It describes your motivations, creative energies, and the influence of passion. Nine of Cups (Happiness), when reversed: Vanity, conceit, and smugness in romance, friendship, or other relationships. Achieving what you always thought you wanted. Overindulging in food, drink, or the pleasures of the flesh. A state of joy and abundance that is shallow and fleeting.
The fourth card, placed below the significator, represents Water. It describes your emotions, meditations, and the influence of love. Three of Pentacles (Works), when reversed: Delays in the commencement of business, commercial transactions, or employment. Holding back or failing to use one's abilities to their full potential. Shoddy workmanship and lack of attention to detail. Being hamstrung by convention, or failing to temper artistic fancy with an understanding of reality.
The fifth card, placed to the left of the significator represents Earth. It describes your physical presence, position in life, and the influence of the material world. Queen of Swords, when reversed: The dark essence of air behaving as water, such as a cold rain: A person gifted with both keen logic and natural intuition, giving them uncanny powers of perception and insight. One who easily sees the weakness in any argument, and savages friend and foe alike with biting sarcasm. Dry and vicious wit covering a hollow sense of isolation and dissatisfaction with life.
At this point the cross is complete and the triangle is formed. The sixth card, placed on the bottom left of the triangle represents one of two opposing forces. Seven of Cups (Temptation): Daydreams and things seen in the glass of contemplation. The scattering of energies by strong desires and unrealistic goals. The pursuit of illusions and the dissipation of energy on false choices. Intoxication, delirium, and hallucination, leading to the negation of effort. Under rare and extreme circumstances, may indicate the revelation of transcendental spiritual truth.
The seventh card, placed on the bottom right of the triangle represents the force that opposes the bottom left card. These forces may be external, but they are frequently one's own inner archetypes in conflict. Queen of Pentacles: The essence of earth behaving as water, such as a hot spring: A warm and generous host, providing shelter and comfort for all who would seek it. A person steadfast, practical, and domestic, able to create opulence and stability in any setting. The qualities of maturity and sensibility, coupled with an innate appreciation for nature and the material world.
The eighth card, the reconciler, is placed below the cross in the third vertex of the triangle. This is the force that will resolve the conflict between the bottom left and bottom right cards. By meditating on this force and bringing more of it into your life, you can bring the matter at hand to a swifter conclusion than would naturally occur. The Hermit, when reversed: Detachment based on fear, irresponsibility or naiveté. Self-imposed isolation from friends and loved ones. Listening to the wrong advice or ignoring good counsel. Concealment, disguise, and unreasoned caution.
The ninth and final card, placed in the center bottom of the triangle, represents the final outcome unless you change course. Knight of Pentacles, when reversed: The essence of earth behaving as fire, such as molten magma: One slow to action, even in the most urgent circumstances. A force of nature that cannot be diverted from the wrong path. The voice of duty and honor utterly divorced from reality. Lack of imagination and the complete unwillingness to try a different approach, even if the face of complete failure. Idleness and stagnation.

what is my next step?

The Celtic Cross spread is one of the most popular Tarot spreads, providing varied insight into many aspects of a complex situation and your role in it. The Lovecraft Tarot is a tribute to the gothic writings of the visionary H.P. Lovecraft. It is the deck of choice for explorers of the macabre, and for posing questions that should never be asked. If you would like your own copy of the Lovecraft Tarot, you can buy it now!
The card not shown but at the center of the cross, represents the atmosphere surrounding the central issue. Tsathoggua, when reversed: Resistance of temptation. Freedom from bondage. The pursuit of higher goals despite the influence of luxury and pleasure. Release from obsession with money and power. Liberation from fear, weakness and indecision through communion with higher powers or the inner voice.
The card visible at the center of the cross represents the obstacle that stands in your way - it may even be something that sounds good but is not actually to your benefit. Eight of Man (Wizard Noah Whateley), when reversed: The realization that a matter thought to be important was actually of little consequence. Moving on from something in which you had invested great love and devotion. The start of an inner journey to find higher aspects of life. Reflection on what is truly fulfilling in life.
The card at the top of the cross represents your goal, or the best you can achieve without a dramatic change of priorities. Queen of Tomes (Seven Cruptical Books of Osan): The essence of fire behaving as water, such as a rainbow: The natural embodiment of passion and sensuality, who is always the center of attention. One who reflects the desires and ambitions of others, and ignites them. A radiantly vital person, cocky and charismatic, who sees what she wants and goes after it.
The card at the bottom of the cross represents the foundation on which the situation is based. Ithaqua, when reversed: Ineffective use of force. Might turned against the weak or the righteous. Senseless violence and warmongering. Lack of discipline and poor direction fan the flames of a situation already out of control. Advance without consideration of the consequences for others.
The card at the left of the cross represents a passing influence or something to be released. Seven of Tomes (The King in Yellow): Standing courageously for your beliefs in the face of adversity. Fear of failure overcome by the will to succeed. Great obstacles met with heroism and determination. Inner strength brought to bear at a critical moment.
The card at the right of the cross represents an approaching influence or something to be embraced. Seven of Sites (St. Toad's): A pause to check on the progress of your labors. Making difficult financial decisions. Exercising patience and perseverance. Evaluating the status of your work and your options for the future.
The card at the base of the staff represents your role or attitude. The Hounds of Tindalos: The path of destiny. Karma on a grand scale. An unexpected turn of good fortune. A link in the chain of events. Success, luck, and happiness.
The card second from the bottom of the staff represents your environment and the people you are interacting with. Page of Tomes (The People of the Monolith), when reversed: The dark essence of fire behaving as earth, such as dry wood: The surprising appearance of a new passion or inflammatory news. A trickster who can unexpectedly ignite a dangerous situation. The intensity and childish imagination that can send even the most stable venture spinning wildly out of control. Can represent a person outwardly timid, but harboring unexpected inner fury. May indicate the birth of a child.
The card second from the top of the staff represents your hopes, fears, or an unexpected element that will come into play. Seven of Artifacts (EOD Vestments), when reversed: Being trapped in a hopeless situation and unable to withdraw. A feat of daring that is too much for you to handle. Being caught in the middle of a desperate act of cunning or outright deception.
The card at the top of the staff represents the ultimate outcome should you continue on this course. Two of Tomes (De Vermis Mysteriis): Established power and influence over others. Setting goals and a vision for the future. Coming to grips with the impact of past decisions, considering the current state of affairs, and developing a plan of action. Responsible leadership.

The card represents the critical factor for the issue at hand. Six of Cups (Pleasure): Opening your heart to the simple pleasures of life. Fond memories fuel the playful embrace of love and life. Experiencing the joy of youth and sexual innocence. Engaging in acts of gentle kindness. Harmony of natural forces without effort or strain. Meeting an old friend.

Meeting an old friend.

The card in the center represents the attitude you assume. Fame: Personal glory and public accolade. Being treated as a celebrity by those you meet. The opening of doors and a flood of opportunities. An abundance of power and influence.
The card to the right represents the thoughts and feelings that underly your attitudes. Fire: Boundless creative energy waiting to be unleashed. A burst of passion and vitality that can be harnessed to reshape the future and achieve your desires. Swift movement and decisive action.
The card at the top represents how your attitude is evolving and will evolve in the future. Libra, when reversed: Prejudice and snobbery towards the less sophisticated. Gullibility and lack of practical knowledge. Inability to make a decision and stick by it. Ivory tower idealism divorced from reality.
The card to the left represents how others perceive your attitude. Nine of Coins (Gain), when reversed: Bad luck attending material affairs. Elitism and snobbishness. Lack discipline resulting in the erosion of security and stability. Contempt for the exact labors that brought one to a position of refinement. Dishonesty in financial matters.
The card at the bottom represents what you cannot confront or are hiding from yourself. King of Coins: The essence of earth behaving as air, such as a diamond: A true businessman, with a gift for identifying opportunities and taking advantage of them. A person well informed about the world, skilled in all things physical, and eager to encourage others. A pillar of practicality and dependability, embracing tried and tested methods, and possessing an innate understanding of the material reality. A philanthropist and devotee of both luxury and hard work, whose word is as good as gold.

3 card reading [15 Sep 2008|02:36pm]
oh my lord

Main (positional) Meaning:
Support a renewed sense of adventure that moves toward a vision, even in the face of more realistic viewpoints about the probable outcome.

The card that lands in the Situation position refers to social or circumstantial factors which could be affecting your life at this time.

When the Knight of Wands (in some decks, a Prince) is in this position, someone in your environment may be venturing into their dream. The situation may feel both poignant and bittersweet to you. You realize how joyful and important an occasion it is. Still, you see how likely it is that the shiny new armor will soon be dented, the husky horse become tired, and the enthusiasm of new adventures tempered by a few difficult trials.

Virginal innocence has not yet met an adversary and that's a beautiful thing. It deserves to be celebrated and supported no matter how more seasoned eyes envision the eventual outcome.

Main (positional) Meaning:
What brings sorrow may also give rise to feelings of liberation.

The card that lands in the Challenges/Opportunities position refers to ways that you can turn obstacles into stepping stones.

With the Nine of Swords in this position, you are facing the paradox that what is cause for grief and sorrow can also produce a great release. Sometimes the catastrophe you fear the worst is actually the end of an impossible situation; this may be one of those times.

Consider the possibility that binding obligations to an old situation are now ended. You are now free to choose your own direction, to explore and grow beyond circumstances that used to hold you in. The very fact that this is happening indicates your readiness to make this transition. Somewhere beneath the distress and loss is a reserve of strength that has been building for this kind of opportunity. Point yourself toward healing, release from bondage, and freedom from suffering. Focus on the positive. Collect visions and ideas that will help you rise above feelings of hopelessness

Main (positional) Meaning:
When you are conflicted, spend some time gathering information before taking action.

The card in the Self position reveals aspects of how you perceive yourself right now.

With the Two of Swords in this position, indecision prevails, and there are no obvious clues to help you decide which choices to make. Opposing forces seem to pull you apart; the left brain is arguing with the right, reason is in conflict with the heart.

Although this is a difficult and painful position, timeless wisdom says to follow your heart. Resist trying to judge the situation in precise, rigid terms. Continue to gather clues, be receptive to new information, but choose with your heart. This time of confusion may turn out to be a fertile period for you. Do not squander your energy on premature action.

HOROSCOPES [15 Sep 2008|02:30pm]
Trying to avoid conflict might be impossible, today. Just go with the flow.

You need to make sure that you're working on something that means a lot to you, because your powers are quite strong and you should be able to make amazing progress despite the general slowdown.
The amount of energy it will take you to avoid conflict today might not be worth it, so if an argument is looming at home or a scene is brewing at work, just go with it and see what happens. It might end up being nothing but an entertaining episode you can talk about later with friends -- just try to think the best of the situation. And even if things end up not going very well, don't worry -- you are much better off facing this situation head-on, anyway.

You are ready for a bit of playful competition today and, with a little bit of luck, you should get it. Participating in team sports is one possibility, but your need for fun could take other forms too. Whatever might put a smile on your face is worth pursuing at this time. Don't waste time explaining yourself to your co-workers; instead, just do it.

tea time [23 May 2007|04:11pm]
5/23/06

My, my it's nice to be home. When I say home, I mean my home, not the cozy shack in the woods. Good ole astoria. It feels good to be back and actually have it be mine this time and for good. Last summer was a sweater with no buttons and many button-holes. Now it's a parka. [I usually don't refer to places as items of clothing].

I love the irony i come across in this city. For example, walking in Grand Central seeing a young boy eating a pretzel followed by his father with his video camera: "C'est bonne, Philipe?" "oui, c'est bonne!"
the $2.00, germ infested, corrupt pretzel he bought off the street is magical. Way better than handmade croissants,eh?

what's the windiness about?

I should be making a Mama's day card

I can tap dance the number of times it's been expected. seemed there.

Life cooks you in a pan.

I am not an advocate of crushing the bedbugs.
Or closing the drawer all the way.
I am one of bedtime stories

Lay down and maybe it will seep through you

SCORPIO: If you're having a "Groundhog Day experience" or can't seem to shake the sense of déjà-vu all over again, the moment has come to gently but firmly usher out elderly routines or approaches and replace them with new, improved versions. Btw: These planets absolutely guarantee new, improved versions, but not until you've done the "out with the old" thing.

sounds good.
